New Day - and Shaw success - for Borough...

By Kevin Anderson

…Jamie adds two to the squad (and they are a good deal better quality than your headline-writer....)

Borough manager Jamie Howell has made two further additions to his ever-strengthening first team squad. The Sports on Thursday evening agreed the signing of 20-year-old defender Tom Day and goalkeeper Gregor Shaw .

Tom, whose home is in Horley, began his career as a youngster with Crystal Palace before joining Division Two club Barnet. He enjoyed a lengthy and successful loan spell at Staines Town, and also a briefer one at the end of last season at Hemel Hempstead Town.

Gregor, 18, is Brighton-based and kept goal for last season's highly impressive Whitehawk Under-18 side. He has already featured in a couple of Borough's pre-season friendlies.

"We have a busy programme in the next month or so, and extra bodies are of course useful," Jamie commented. " However, these two are very much more than simply extra bodies. Tom is relatively young but certainly no novice - he already has an excellent pedigree with a top-level professional club as well as valuable experience at a good non-league level. Gregor has impressed us in training and pre-season, and working alongside Smudge (Mark Smith) under the wise coaching of Dean Lightwood, we believe he has a promising future."

Both lads are signed, sealed and available for National South action. Welcome to the Lane, Tom and Gregor!
