FA Cup - home to Slough Town or Bristol Manor Farm

1 week ago By Kevin Anderson

No complaints with that one, says Jamie...

“You always look for a home tie, and we have avoided the big names of the National League”

In the Fourth Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup, the Sports will be at home to Slough Town or Bristol Manor Farm. The two potential opponents fought out a 2-2 draw on Saturday, with the Farm twice coming from behind to earn a replay on Tuesday night (9th Oct) at their home ground, The Creek. Manor Farm are among the half-dozen lowest ranked clubs left in the FA Cup, and currently sit mid-table in the Southern League South Division. Slough Town were visitors to Priory Lane only last month, grabbing a 4-2 victory in a slightly surreal 90 minutes of football - 85 of those minutes played with only ten men!

"No complaints with this draw," was manager Jamie Howell's instant reaction. "You always look for a home tie, and we have avoided the big names of the National League. We do, in the nicest sense, have a score to settle with Slough Town, who in fairness played it exactly right when they nicked the win at the Lane. I have great respect for their manager Neil Baker and his staff. They are a thoroughly nice club and, needless to say, they or Bristol Manor Farm will just as geared up for this tie as ourselves."

"I confess that the Farm are not on our usual radar at all, but we will have done our homework well in advance. They are billing the Slough replay as the biggest match in their history, and they are sure to be busting a gut to get through."

TEN THINGS you didn't know about Manor Farm...

  • The Farm have played a Sussex side once before - losing to Whitehawk during Hawks' 2010 FA Vase run...
  • The club is based on the "far (western) side" of Bristol - on past the Zoo and towards Avonmouth.....
  • Farm are in their second season in the Southern League, having gained promotion in a sensational 2017 title-winning season in the Western League, with 33 victories and only two defeats....
  • The club motto Portus Abonae is - as all Borough supporters knew anyway - the Latin for "Harbour of the Avon"....
  • Manor Farm are eligible to play in not one but two County Cup competitions, since Bristol has historically never made up its mind whether it's in Somerset or Gloucestershire....
  • Reduced admission to Tuesday night's replay is offered to supporters of both Bristol City and Rovers season-ticket holders - uniting Robins and the Gas for the first time in living memory....
  • Saturday's 2-2 draw at Slough was achieved in spite of FOUR Farm players being suspended (three of whom return for the replay)….
  • And the club's devoted supporters are, of course, called the Farmy Army....

Okay, eight things, but I'll stop before you lose the will to live. Can they knock out the Rebels? Hopefully yes: your press officer can't think of more than three things about Slough Town.... Watch this page for a post-replay update!

Ties to be played on Saturday 20th October. More details to follow.

(POST SCRIPT For any Sports supporters who didn't bother to listen to the draw because they assumed it would be Dover again - the Whites are away to Concord Rangers.....)
