Elliott Heads Off For New Challenge

7 months ago By Kevin Anderson

Elliott Romain leaves Priory Lane for National League pace-setters Dagenham and Redbridge FC, in a transfer deal announced this afternoon.

ELLIOTT ROMAIN
Eastbourne Borough Football Club can today announce that the Club received a bid, deemed acceptable, for the transfer of Elliott Romain to Dagenham and Redbridge FC, who are releasing this news simultaneously with Eastbourne Borough. After discussions with all parties, agreement has been reached. The transfer will be for an agreed undisclosed fee.

Following agreement of personal terms and a successful medical, Elliott's transfer has been confirmed this afternoon and he is now a Dagenham and Redbridge player.

Eastbourne Borough FC place on record the club's thanks to Elliott Romain for his huge commitment and contribution to the team's progress since he joined the club from Lewes FC in Summer 2015. He has been a credit to himself and to the Borough. We are delighted to be able to further the career of Elliott, or any other player, and we are sure supporters will join us in wishing him every success at Dagenham and Redbridge FC.

Borough manager Tommy Widdrington added: "I'm not at all surprised at the interest Elliott has received and I'm delighted with his contribution to Eastbourne Borough over the last 20 months or so. I'm also mindful of the "doubters" who told me he couldn't be managed, and the previous people Elliott worked under, who told me - quote - "He doesn't score enough goals!" Elliott had passed the twenty mark for the season by the end of February!

"I and everyone at Priory Lane wish Elliott the very best of luck in his new adventure, and he is living proof that you should never give up on your pursuit to improve. He's been a pleasure to work with both on the training ground and on a Saturday, I'd even go as far as to say it's improved me as a manager as I've never quite had a lad like Elliott in my charge!

"I realise that supporters will miss Elliott Romain and instinctively ask "Can we replace him?". But every football team is constantly evolving, and supporters have already witnessed the clear progress that we have made this season. Without that whole-team progress Elliott would not have scored his twenty goals! I am sure we can achieve the dual aim of furthering players' individual careers and developing and strengthening the squad and the club at the same time. There will always be another Elliott Romain out there, and I am certain that our structure and our coaching will produce more gems.

"Meanwhile we are all united at Eastbourne Borough in thanking Elliott for all he has given to this football club, and in wishing him every possible success in his career."
