City Quick Out Of the Blocks Sees The Sports Suffer Home Defeat

A disasterous opening 20 minutes see Boro have a mountain to climb - Chelmsford City grabbing 3 points with 3 quickfire goals.

Eastbourne Borough: Banks, Baker YYR, Cole, Smart, Rowe, Cobbs, Brinkhurst, Johnson (Strevett 74), Watson (Camara 74), Rook, Crabb
Unused Subs: Pulman, Medlock, Norris

Goal(s): Crabb (21)

With Boro looking to bounce back from the defeat at Welling the side could have done without 3 quick goals from the visiting Chelmsford City side. It took just 6 minutes for City to get their opener, the lively Ricky Modeste firing past Rikki Banks. Before Boro could gather their thoughts they were 2 down as a communication breakdown between banks and Sam Cole led to an OG - 2-0 after only 8 minutes !

Boro settled and a Simon Jon=hnson free-kick needed a finish in the 6 yard box on a quarter hour but before The Sports could gather any momentum a save from Banks led to a visitors corner powerfully finished by Kenny Clark on 19 minutes - 3-0.

Remarkably Boro gave themselves a lifeline as Matt Crabb finished into the roof of the net on 21 minutes after Carl Rook won the ball in the 18 yard box. It was to be the end of the scoring however, but the game from here on in did not match the scoreline ..... a much more even affair with the visitors comfortably in front.

Boro had efforts from Johnson, Crabb and Rook but no real danger before the whistle sounded for half-time.

Boro started the 2nd 45 in a positive manner, Chelmsford needing some last ditch defending on 51 minutes, Crabby and Ben Watson denied. Boro were in the driving seat but it began to look like the all important 2nd goal to set up a grandstand finish would not come. After 20 minutes of pressure the Boro management made changes with Ethan Strevett and Bailo Camara introduced. Unfortunately Darren Baker somewhat harshly recieved his marching orders for a 2nd yellow, the mountain just got higher.

Indeed Boro continued to press with 10 men but no clear cut chances were created, the visitors happy to weather the storm and leave with all 3 points earned in the opening exchanges of the contest.
