10 Man Boro Lose Out v 10 Man City
Boro nearly pull off an unlikely point reminiscent of Darlington at home - but a goal 12 from time break Sports hearts.
Borough: Walker, Hamilton-Omole (Austin, 46), Cole, Smart, Lacey, Rowe, Johnson, Anderson, Remy, Ademeno (Hart, 60), Crabb (Watson, 88)
Unused Substitutes: Jason Mason, Gary Charman
Att: 835
========================================================================
A late Cliff Akurang header twelve minutes from time ensured the hosts prevailed as the two sides were reduced to 1o men in the 17th minute. Ricky Modeste fouled Mitchell Walker but the Boro 'stopper' responded to the late, late challenge giving the referee the easy option to send both players off.
Boro, without a replacement ‘keeper on the substitutes’ bench, were forced to put midfielder Matt Smart between the sticks for the remainder of the game, not for the fisrt time in his career, and Chelmsford’s pressure was eventually rewarded when Akurang nodded his side in front towards the end.
Boro had matched the hosts up until the dismissal, and in truth the game was no spectacle, the winning goal finally coming as the hosts desperately tried to make up for an hour of 'not' testing Smart, the giant striker nodding home from an uncleared corner.
In truth Boro had the best of a wind assisted 1st 45, Ademeno and Remy testing the City back-four, but the dour affair needed Boro to hang on for a deserved point as the conditions and need to protect Smart eventually saw the hosts grab all 3 points.
