As the clock ticked past the ninety minute mark virtually everyone amongst the 236 crowd at the Woodspring Stadium would have settled for a point ....
..... a 2-2 drawBut the players had other ideas with both sides fighting for victory and full points.
Borough had twice led in an entertaining fixture, but suffered the heartache of conceding a last gasp goal and defeat!
Weston-Super-Mare, fresh from a 3-0 win at Havant & Waterlooville in midweek, started well..testing the Borough defence in the opening minutes, with Nabi Diallo’s dangerous cross being turned behind in the fourth minute, and Nick Jordan did well to touch the ball behind from a fierce Caz Hemmings shot on 11 minutes. At the other end, Borough moved well without challenging the home keeper, until the 19th minute when Gary Hart touched down a cross for the impressive Simon Johnson to fire home, giving the visitors the lead.
Moments later Borough should have increased the advantage when Sam Cole received the ball ten yards out, but blasted high over the goal.
Weston were immediately pushing for ward for an equaliser, with Jordan again in action making a fine save from Kane Jordan, but the relief was short lived as Diallo levelled the scores from the edge of the penalty area.
The game continued in end to end play with few further opportunities before the break.
However, just four minutes into the second period Johnson set up David Knight with a perfect pass and the striker fired ruthlessly into the roof of Weston’s net to open his goal tally for the Priory Lane side. At a time when composure was required in the Borough defence, Ross Stearn caused panic as he cut along the left flank and left the visiting defenders stranded as he shot past Jordan…only two minutes after Borough had regained the lead!
Both sides had chances, the best falling to Michael Noone whose shot was saved by Lloyd Irish in the home goal. Minutes later substitute good play involving a number of Borough players saw Charles Ademeno pulled the ball back from the by-line. The ball passed between the post and the keeper but Darren Lok was unable to make contact as it skimmed across the open goal.
Then, in the fifth minute of added time Hemmings met a cross from Jamie Price and flicked the ball to Ashley Kington who dramatically shot home from close range to poach victory for Weston, with the visiting defence looking on in disbelief.
