Match report v Three Bridges Mon 11th Sept...
A confident Borough U18s travelled up to Three Bridges on Monday night hoping to continue their League and Cup un-beaten run, with boss Graeme Mintrim making just the one change from the FA Youth Cup victory over Corinthian - Sam Cash back in for Matt Pickering.
Three Bridges started much the brighter of the two teams as the U18s struggled to settle and it wasn’t long before ‘keeper Michael Platt was called into action after a quick Bridges attack. Defender Ollie Duncan was kept busy by Bridges left winger as he was their main target man to start each attack and the tricky player was receiving far too much of the ball. On 27 minutes as Harry Ransom looked to set up a rare attack for Borough, he smacked the ball into the referee, which wrong footed the 18s with the deflection but set Bridges up for another attack. Seconds later the ball was in the back of the net and 1-0 Bridges. Striker Tyler Pearson spurned the best chance of the half as he hit wide after a lovely cut-back from Harry Colbran and this pretty much summed up the half for Borough as Bridges took a deserved 1-0 lead into half time.
At the re-start, and after an obvious talking to from the management, Borough were looking a lot sharper with each player stepping up a gear. With 58 minutes gone Alex Plummer, just outside the area smashed the ball at the goal and with the ‘keeper unable to hold Sam Cash tucked it away for the equaliser and two minutes later Harry Colbran made no mistake from a similar position as he scored Boroughs second. Bridges were reeling a bit but still dangerous as Borough looked for their third to take all three points. It eventually came in injury time, a good ball in from sub Callum Buchanan and Pearson beat the offside trap to chip the ‘keeper and score his fourth league goal of the season.
Credit to the management team (particularly Luke Carpenter) and the 18s for turning this one around in the second half after not being at the races in the first. Confidence should be high for the FA Youth Cup 1st Qualifying Round tie against Welling United at Priory Lane on Tuesday 19th September (not Monday as previously reported).
