'Debut' Win For Hughes

2 years ago By Lee Peskett

Boro won the 'derby' pre season fixture with Eastbourne Town .....

..... on a typical English summers evening - the drizzle adding some zip to The Saffrons pitch. The hosts were reduced to 10 men on 17 minutes and Sports took immediate advantage with a triallist grabbing the goal.

The 2nd 45 saw a virtually totally new team on the pitch - the first 45 mostly triallists - and new signing Mark Hughes played a full role in the half. Jamie Taylor grabbed a brace to extend the sides lead in the last 15 minutes.

Hughes joins from Chelmsford City but has a history of league (Oldham Athletic, Chesterfield) and non-league (Thurrock, Eastleigh) clubs. Sat in the dugout after the game he commented - "I know Eastbourne Borough as an opposition having been at Eastleigh and Chelmsford City. I'm delighted to be here and get myself sorted for the season. I hope to bring some experience to the side - but there are already a number of leaders in the club."

Tommy Widdrington's comment on his new signing was short and to the point - "I've never liked him as a player - because he has never been in my side !"
