….. The club is delighted to advise supporters that to add to recent returning players Sergio Torres, Kane Wills, Yemi Odubade, Harry Ransom and Lloyd Dawes, keeper Mark Smith will be back at The Lane next season.
He will be joined by two players new to The Sports who have today signed for Boro.
David Martin, 33, began his career in Sussex with Brighton & Hove Albion, before returning back to his native South London with Slade Green in 2004 and then Dartford in 2005. With The Darts, Martin scored 14 goals in 68 appearances over 2 seasons, form which attracted the attention of then-Championship side Crystal Palace, who he joined for a fee of £25,000, though he was restricted to only 14 appearances at Selhurst Park. He made the switch across South London to Millwall in 2008, where he made 90 appearances, scoring 9 goals. David then had spells with Derby County, Notts County and Walsall before joining Southend United in 2012, making 31 appearances during a year in Essex. Spells with Luton Town, Bristol Rovers and Stevenage followed before being signed by Steve King at Whitehawk, being a crucial part of The Hawks’ famous FA Cup run to the Second Round in 2015 and helping them to the National League South Playoffs in 2016. He left shortly after for Bromley, before joining Margate on loan, a move which he made permanent last season, before leaving this Summer.
Charlie Walker, 28, hails from Sussex and began playing senior football with Shoreham, before moving onto Lancing, helping them to finish 2nd in the Sussex County League. He then moved to then-Isthmian Premier League side Whitehawk, before continuing to move eastwards to join Peacehaven & Telscombe, becoming a crucial part of the side which won the Isthmian Division One South title and the Sussex Senior Cup in the 13/14 season, a season in which Walker scored 43 goals, which attracted attention of Football League clubs and he ended up signing with then-League Two side Luton Town in Summer 2014. Charlie make 6 appearances with The Hatters before joining Boreham Wood on loan for the remainder of the 14/15 season, where he finished the season playing in the Conference South playoff final against a former side in Whitehawk. Along with The Wood, Walker played National League football the next season, signing for Aldershot Town where in 2 seasons he made 59 appearances, scoring 17 goals. After leaving The Shots by mutual consent in January 2017, he signed for St Albans City on a year and a half contract. Charlie made 67 appearances with The Saints, scoring 16 goals before leaving in the Summer.
Everyone at EBFC welcomes David and Charlie to Priory Lane!
With Lloyd Dawes and Yemi Odubade already committed to next season and with Charlie Walker adding to the attacking options, Jamie Taylor has left The Lane to pursue his career elsewhere. Jamie Howell said "Jamie was great for me last season - always committed and will be remembered fondly at Eastbourne Borough - but with the quality of strikers we have and the addition of Charlie Walker I understand his need and desire to play regular football which I cannot guarantee at this time."
Further squad updates will be provided in the coming days and weeks.
